Young Communist League of the Communist Party of Kenya stands in steadfast solidarity with the General Unit of Students in the Republic of Iraq in their struggle for student and academic freedom.

We denounce the Ministry of Higher Education's oppressive and repressive decision to stop the Union from working in universities and for prosecuting its members. This suppression of student voices and the Union’s activities violates the rights and freedoms of students.

We understand that the ruling elite has chosen to quiet the Union's valid concerns in order to deflect attention from their mistakes and the corruption within the educational system. Even then, we proclaim that suppressing student voices and stifling their organized efforts will not hide the breakdown of the educational system in Iraq: It is clear that Iraq's academic standing has suffered because the ruling class has prioritized sectarian and ethnic power-sharing over professionalism and integrity in university administration.

The Communist Party of Kenya also strongly criticizes the policy of reporting the Union's activities to the Security Services offices of the university. In addition to being a clear violation of the Higher Education Law, which forbids the presence of military manifestations on campuses, the action is objectionable and unacceptable since it symbolizes the militarization of the educational environment. The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research must respect the educational institutions' autonomy and ensure these institutions continue to be places where students can practice academic freedom and grow intellectually.

We support the General Union of Students' demand that the restrictive decision be reversed immediately and that the Ministry of Higher Education formally apologizes for the mistreatment and abuse committed to the Union. The Ministry should also be held accountable for the safety and security of the cadres and colleaguesof the Union. Defending and upholding the students' rights to organize, voice their concerns, and fight for a brighter future is important for the good of the country.

We call on all friendly unions, organizations, and trade unions to stand in solidarity with the General Union of Students in the Republic of Iraq and to oppose this oppressive decision. That student and academic liberties are being violated is part of a larger trend of attacks on public freedoms, which needs to be confronted and opposed collectively.

We can only protect student rights and enhance education as a cornerstone of a just and democratic society by working together in harmony and solidarity.

Long live the General Union of Students in the Republic of Iraq!

Long live the struggles of the Iraqi student movement!

Long live YCL!

In solidarity,

Mwaivu Kaluka

Chairperson of the Young Communist League (YCL) of the Communist Party of Kenya (CPK)

Expose and Defeat US Imperialism, the Primary Aggressor Against Humanity May 26th, 2026   Nepal is a land of immense revolutionary history and immense contradiction. The mountains of Nepal carry the memory of armed struggle, sacrifice, and the blood of workers and peasants who rose against feudal monarchy and imperialist domination. Through the communist led anti monarchy insurgency, the old order was shaken violently. The 2001 royal massacre accelerated the collapse of feudal authority and opened the road toward the struggle for national democracy. During the ten years of People’s War,  [ ... ]
